Before we get into what tape weft rolls are and how to use them, let’s talk about weft tape in hair extensions! Not to be confused with tape in extensions, tape in weft extensions use tape rolls rather than tape tabs for application. This is because tape in extensions come in multiple small wefts (30 to 40 wefts for application), while weft tape ins have one longer weft per row (with people using 1 to 2 rows for a full head).

Generally, you’ll see weft extensions applied in the beaded weft or sew in application method. With tape in wefts, you’re getting the fullness of weft extensions with the convenience of the tape in application method. Are you thinking about trying tape weft extensions? Next, we’ll explain more about how to apply them with tape rolls.

How to Apply Tape In Weft Extensions with Tape Rolls

If you want to apply tape weft extensions, it all starts with the tape roll. These rolls are customizable, so you can cut them to the size you need for the weft. Instead of tape tabs for tape in extensions that come in small peel-off sheets, this comes in a roll that creates a single long tape strip for application. Ready to use tape rolls to apply weft tape in hair extensions? Our hair extension experts at Big Kizzy are here to walk you through the process!

What You’ll Need:

  • Weft tape in hair extensions

  • Tape weft roll

How To:

  1. Start with clean, dry hair to ensure a secure bond and natural blend.

  1. Measure and cut the tape from the roll and attach the strip at the top of the extension weft.

  1. Create a horizontal part at the back of your head right above your ears (the cleaner the line, the better the tape will bond to the natural hair, so using a sectioning ring is key!).

  1. Use the hair clips to clip the top section up and out of the way.

  1. Place the first row of the weft tape in extensions along the part about ¼ to ½ inch away from the scalp.

  1. Using the sectioning ring, create another part right above the row you just applied. Then, section off a thin layer of hair that will be sandwiched between the wefts.

  1. Add the second tape in weft on top of the other weft to complete the tape in weft sandwich.

  1. Repeat the above steps if adding a second row of weft tape in hair extensions.
