We love a good hair extension hack, and this one might be our favorite yet! Have you ever wondered, “Can I reuse tape in extensions or weft extensions?” The answer is yes, but there are only so many times you can retape and sew them. But what if you could convert them to clip ins? This would give them new life! However, traditionally, this meant sewing clips onto each panel by hand, which, let’s be real, is time-consuming and a kind of a pain.
At Big Kizzy, we knew there had to be an easier, faster way to get the job done, so we created it! Meet Kizzy Clips, our clip in conversion kit that makes it super simple to reuse hair extensions and turn them into fully customized clip ins. Next, we’ll go over the step-by-step process for both tape in and weft extensions, since each method differs slightly. Now, let’s clip it in!
How to Make Clip In Reusable Hair Extensions
Ready to turn your old extensions into on-the-go clip-ins? Grab your extensions and your Kizzy Clips, because it’s time to convert. We’ll show you exactly how to convert both tape in and weft extensions using our no-sew clip in kit. Here’s how to get started!
For Tape In Extensions
Can you reuse tape hair extensions? Yes, you can. But once the tape tabs have seen their last days, there’s a better solution. Kizzy Clips give your tape ins new life with the steps below!
Instructions:
-
Wash the hair extensions thoroughly and allow them to dry completely.
-
Take six wefts with the adhesive side facing up, and re-tape them using double-sided tape.
-
Take three of the six re-taped wefts (wefts 1, 2, and 3) and flip them over so that the untaped side is facing up. Set aside the remaining three re-taped wefts.
-
Secure wefts 1, 2, and 3 to each other by taping them together using two pieces of single-sided tape. Once they are connected, flip them back over.
-
Remove the paper liner from the re-taped tab on Panel #1 (left side panel).
-
Gently pull up the J hook to open the angle of the hook.
-
Place the clip on the exposed adhesive of Panel #1, positioning the J hook so that it goes over to the untaped backside of the weft. Using a plier tool, flatten the hooks for security.
Note: The J hook does not need to scoop up the panel. -
Repeat the above process on Panel #3 (right side panel) for wefts 1, 2, and 3.
-
Remove the paper liner from Panel #2, exposing the adhesive.
-
Remove the paper liner from the three remaining re-taped wefts (Panels 4, 5, and 6). Place Panels 4 and 5 onto the panels with the J hooks (Panels 1 and 3), covering the hooks. Place Panel 6 onto the middle panel (Panel 2) with exposed adhesive, ensuring the entire backside of the attached panels is covered with the re-taped extensions.
-
Connect the three recently placed panels (Panels 4, 5, and 6) by taping them together using two pieces of single-sided tape.
-
Press the extensions together firmly using your fingers or a sealing tool. Make sure to press along the entire length of the extension.
-
Allow 24 hours for the adhesive to fully bond before using the extensions.

For Weft Extensions
Using weft extensions? Let’s turn them into reusable hair extensions with clips you can remove and apply whenever you want! Kizzy Clips are here to make your DIY dreams come true.
Instructions:
-
Wash the weft hair extensions thoroughly and allow them to dry completely.
-
Using small weft scissors, cut two (2) three-inch (3") panels from the weft extension. Set one of the wefts aside for later use.
Note: This method does not work with hand-tied wefts. -
Pull up on the J hooks to open them. The J hooks are located on the backside of the clips.
-
Attach two clips, one to the left side and one to the right side of the weft, by placing the weft into the J hooks of the clips. Try to catch the bottom seam of the weft inside the hooks.
-
Press down to close the J hooks with the weft secured inside, using your fingers or a sealing tool.
-
Place three pieces of double-sided tape along the same side of the weft where the J hooks are located. Do not cover the clips themselves.
-
Remove the liner paper from the three pieces of double-sided tape that were applied to the weft.
-
Take the other three-inch (3") weft panel and carefully place it onto the exposed adhesive of the double-sided tape.
-
Press the two wefts together firmly using extension pliers or your fingers.
-
Do not wash the extensions for at least 24 hours to allow the adhesive to fully set and bond.
