Your Step-By-Step Guide to Applying Hair Extensions Using Tape Wefts & Big Kizzy Single Sided Tape Roll

Ready to start applying your tape weft extensions? First, you’ll need to gather your supplies! If you don’t have everything on hand yet, no worries, we’ve got the essentials listed below. We carry all the items for application, including the revolutionary single sided tape roll, which allows stylists to apply just one tape weft extension per row (instead of always having to apply two at a time). The single sided tape is applied to the bottom of the extension “sandwich,” replacing the second weft. This allows for less weight and less strain on the natural hair. Follow our expert steps to see how easy tape weft extensions are to apply!

What You’ll Need:

  • Tape Weft Hair Extensions

Step 1: Prep The Hair

Before Extensions

Start with clean, dry hair to help the extensions bond properly and blend in naturally. Use a shampoo that’s safe for extensions and skip the conditioner (it can make your hair too slippery for the tape to stick!). After washing, make sure the hair is completely dry. Even a little bit of moisture can affect how well the tape holds.

Step 2: Section The Hair

Use the sectioning ring to create clean, horizontal sections and clip the top sections out of the way. The cleaner the line, the better the tape will stick, so using a sectioning ring can really help you get those neat, even partings. Once you have your first clean section, use a hair gripper to keep any flyaways out of the way.

Step 3: Apply the Tape Weft

Install Tape Weft

Beginning at the back of the head, apply one tape weft hair extension on top of the hair about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch from the scalp.

Step 4: Prep for Single-Sided Tape

Flip the hair section and tape weft extension up and over, and clip the hair out of the way to prepare for the single-sided hair extension tape. This should provide a clear area to apply the single sided tape, in order to close the extension "sandwich."

Step 5: Apply Single-Sided Tape: Unroll, Measure, Cut & Place

Unroll the Extra Hold Single Sided Tape Roll to match the length of the tape weft, then cut cleanly with scissors. Place the single-sided tape on the area of the flipped up hair where the exposed adhesive of the tape weft is located, and press firmly so there are no gaps. Unclip the hair, flip it back down, and the extension is complete! The row should feel lightweight and comfortable while still full and gorgeous!

Step 6: Work Your Way Around

Repeat the same steps as you move around the head section by section. Leave a little space between each row so the hair can move naturally and comfortably. Try not to place the wefts too close to the scalp or hairline. This helps them blend in properly and avoid bulkiness.

Step 7: Final Check and Style

Once all the tape weft extensions are in, check that everything lies flat and stays hidden under the natural hair. Protect your strands with hair oil to guard from heat, environmental stress, and dryness. Now, you’re ready to style however you like, whether that’s smooth and straight, loose waves, or bouncy volume! With a professional application using Big Kizzy tape and tools as well as the proper maintenance, the extensions will stay put for 7+ weeks before they need to be removed and reapplied!
