Why Are Beaded Weft Hair Extensions So Popular?

First things first, what’s the hype around beaded hair extensions? They must have some benefits knowing there are so many variations of this method (and not to mention its rising popularity!). One of the main reasons people love them is that they offer a flawless blend that’s concealed in the natural hair. They’re also easy to maintain, last a long time, and require minimal upkeep. There’s no heat or adhesive involved, so they’re one of the least damaging options for extensions.
What Are the Different Types of Weft Hair Extensions with Beads?

Given that beaded hair extensions are a top choice and offered by many salons, let’s review the different types! As the beaded hair extension method evolved, stylists began creating their own techniques for applying them. Stylists generally have to be certified in specific methods to offer them as a professional service.
Here are the main types of beaded weft hair extensions:
Hidden Beaded Row Extensions
If you see these extensions referred to as hidden beaded row, this means beads are used to apply the hair extension wefts. What each type of beaded extension method has in common is the use of hair beads for extensions. These range from copper or aluminum microbeads, some lined with silicone and others without. The beads are used to attach and secure the hair extensions to the natural hair. This method is different from IBE or NBR because no thread is used for application, just the beads.
Invisible Bead Extensions (IBE)
Invisible Beaded Row Extensions, or IBE, are applied by hand-sewing thin strands of hair to silicone-lined beads secured to the head. For the average client, two rows of weft extensions are sewn around the beads, with the row concealing the beads, making them “invisible.” The IBE method was created to keep hair in its natural direction to reduce tension and scalp discomfort. Both IBE and NBR can be customized for color and thickness.
Natural Beaded Row (NBR) Extensions
Natural Beaded Row Extensions, or NBR, are applied in rows on the hair by creating a “track” with a signature bead and string technique. The hair extension wefts are placed on the track and sewn into the natural hair. Since the track is built with beads underneath the row, you can see the beads when you pull the hair up (whereas they aren’t visible when you do this with IBE). Though with all methods, layers of hair conceal any tracks or beads.
Micro-link Extensions
And last but not least, micro-link hair extensions—the main difference here is the application consists of pre-tipped keratin strands of hair. Each extension tip is attached to the natural hair using extension pliers combined with a copper or aluminum cylinder microbead. IBE and NBR methods use wefts rather than keratin I-tip extensions (which tend to be more expensive and time-consuming to apply).
How Long Do Beaded Hair Extensions Last?

Depending on the beaded hair extensions you choose, each has a timeline for how long they’ll last and when they need to be removed and reapplied. These timeframes depend on variable factors such as how fast your hair grows, your lifestyle, and your haircare routine.
Use this as a quick reference guide for how long beaded extensions last:
-
Hidden Beaded Row – 3 to a year and reapplied every 6 to 8 weeks
-
IBE – 9 months to a year and moved up every 6 to 10 weeks
-
NBR – 6 months to a year and moved up every 6 to 8 weeks
-
Micro-link – 4 to 8 months and reapplied every 4 to 6 weeks
