Why Taped Wefts Are One of The Best Reusable Extensions

If you’re looking for a reliable option for reusable extensions, look no further than tape in wefts! The good news is that taped wefts are not only reusable, they’re some of the easiest extensions to get multiple uses out of. They’re gentle on your natural hair, easy to maintain, and can save you money on extensions in the long run.

Our hair pros at Big Kizzy are breaking down everything you need to know about reusing tape wefts. We’ll explain why they’re one of the best reusable hair extensions, talk about how many times you can reuse them, and walk you through simple steps to reusing your extensions so they look fresh every time. By the end, you’ll see why tape weft extensions are the ultimate choice!

Why You Should Choose Taped Wefts as a Reusable Option

Tape in wefts will quickly become your new favorite reusable go-to! Tape weft extensions are designed to be easily taken out and put back in, placing them at the top of the list for reusable extensions available. Plus, they’re easy to remove and reapply, making them suitable for both beginners and experienced stylists.

These extensions can be worn for 4–6 weeks before they need to be taken out. With proper care, some can even last up to 8 weeks! Taped wefts can be reused multiple times without losing quality. You’re not just buying hair extensions with these, you’re investing in a reusable system that’s easier on your wallet and your hair.

How Many Times Can You Reuse Tape Wefts

Curious how many times you can reuse taped wefts? Typically, you can reuse tape weft extensions 2–3 times before they need to be replaced. If you’re using high-quality hair extensions and caring for them properly, you might be able to extend that to four uses. There are a few things to consider that affect the lifespan of your reusable extensions.

First, there’s the hair quality, since premium hair holds up better through multiple washes and reapplications. With synthetic hair, you may not be able to reuse as much as human hair. You also want to go with a high-quality tape that won’t damage your extensions (or your natural hair!). How well you maintain the extensions, including washing, conditioning, storage, and handling, all play a factor.

How to Reuse Extensions with Tape In Wefts

If you’ve had your taped weft extensions in for a few weeks now, you’ll need to remove and reapply them. If this is your first time using reusable extensions with tape wefts, reusing them is easier than you think! Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you reuse them properly:

Step 1: Remove The Tape Weft Extensions Carefully

Start by applying a remover solution directly on the tape to dissolve the adhesive. Make sure you get all the leftover adhesive off the extensions to keep them clean and ready for re-taping. Anything leftover will affect how well the new tape adheres to the wefts.

Step 2: Wash and Dry the Extensions Before Retaping

Clean hair is key! After taking the extensions out of the natural hair, gently shampoo the extensions (try our extension-safe F.A.T.T. Shampoo). Then let them air-dry completely before applying new tape. Try to limit blow drying your extensions as much as possible if you want them to last longer.

Step 3: Retape the Extensions with New Adhesive

Once the extensions are fully dry, measure and cut the tape from your double-sided tape roll with small weft scissors and apply it to the tape wefts where the old tape was.

Step 4: Section the Hair for Reinstallation

Begin at the nape of the neck and use the sectioning ring to create clean horizontal parts. Clip away the top layers of hair as you go along. Precise sectioning helps the reinstall look just as seamless as the first time, so using a sectioning ring is super helpful!

Step 5: Apply the Single-Sided Tape

Take a thin section of the natural hair and place the tape weft underneath with the tape side facing up, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch away from the scalp. Then, cut a strip of single-sided tape from your single-sided tape roll or use a single-sided tape strip and apply it facing down, sandwiching the natural hair between the single-sided tape and the tape weft. Press firmly to secure the bond.
