Hair extensions are a fantastic way to level up your look when you want more volume and length! From temporary to semi-permanent, there’s a range of hair extension methods available. Out of those methods, tape in extensions are one of the most popular options.
If you’ve never had tape in hair extensions, you might be wondering how long tape for tape in extensions last. No need to continue searching for answers—we’ve got them all ahead! We’ll also give you some more information about the benefits of this hair extension method and how to reuse tape in extensions. Let’s dive in!
What Are the Benefits of Tape In Extensions?
We’re big fans of tape in hair extensions at Big Kizzy (which is why we have an extensive collection of hair tapes and removers!). One of the main benefits of tape in extensions is how lightweight and comfortable they are. You can use single-sided tape if you have thin or fine hair and want fewer extensions, which equals less weight on your tresses.
They’re also super easy to apply—a salon appointment for these extensions won’t take hours (and they’re a more affordable hair extension method!). You’ll love that they’re undetectable when wearing them since the tape in attachment points are concealed under layers of your hair. There’s not a lot of maintenance involved once applied; your stylist can remove and adjust them for you as needed at your next appointment.
How Long Do the Tape Extensions Last?
Now that you know more about the benefits of tape in extensions, let’s take a look at how long they will last. This starts with the type of tape for tape in extensions you use, either regular or extra hold. Regular hold tape will have an average hold time of 5+ weeks, and extra hold tape can last 7+ weeks (with proper extension application and care!). If you properly maintain your extensions and keep up with brushing, washing, conditioning, etc., you can make your extensions last longer.

How To Reuse Tape In Extensions
Can you reuse tape-in extensions? Yes! Most of the popular hair extension brands use 100% Remy human hair. With human hair extensions, you can reuse them 3 to 4 times and expect them to last up to 12 months. This timespan will vary depending on the brand, the quality of hair used, and how well you take care of them. When you start to notice dry, frizzy, and damaged hair, that’s when it’s time to replace your extensions.
Here’s how to reuse tape in extensions:
- Use a remover solvent to loosen the adhesive on the tape in extension attachment points.
- Once the extensions are removed, clean any leftover residue on the natural hair and extensions (use our remover trio for this step!).
- Ensure the natural hair and extensions are fully dry before reapplication.
- Attach the new tape tabs on the wefts to prepare for application.
For best results, head to your nearest salon for a hair extension stylist to help with your tape in removal and application.
